Green Zone Landscaping is a local landscaping company based in the Lower Mainland. With a strong commitment to providing greener spaces for the living, we will ensure your softscape design and construction will be nothing shy of natural beauty. Green is definitely not the only colour we provide though. If you're looking to freshen up your property with pops of colourful flora, we can do that too! We locally source all of our softscape elements to promote an eco-friendlier solution to all of clients.

In order to implement a long-lasting landscape design, the most important element needed is soil. However, not just any soil can be used. The quality of soil used on your property can make or break a landscape all on its own. Soil is, essentially, the glue that helps to stabilize and maintain our stunning softscape designs. Using only tested and treated soil, we guarantee that the softscape designs constructed on your property will remain as bright and as vibrant as the day they first arrived.

So, whether you’re looking for garden maintenance services in Coquitlam or flower bed installation in Richmond, we are here to help you turn your property into a luscious landscape.

What is the difference between hardscaping and softscaping?

Simply put, hardscaping refers to “non-living” aspects of your property whereas softscaping refers to the “living” elements of your property.

Softscape elements are components of landscaping that bring life to your property. These horticultural features can be anything from blossoming bluebells to marvelous maples.

Hardscape elements are solid architectural pieces that can transform unused spaces into functional places. These structures may include: walkways, retaining walls, decks, etc.

  • Interested in adding new softscape elements to your property?

Before we undergo our initial site visit, we ask all of our clients to think about what elements they might like to see on their property. This is important as it allows us to understand what areas you want us to target first. To help get you started, here are a few creative landscaping ideas we might be able to implement for you:

Aquatic plants - These plants are used (as you can probably guess) for water features such as ponds, waterfalls and fountains. They are great for adding a bit of "life" back into hardscape-dominant areas.

Flower beds - Raised planting beds help establish and define a natural balance on your property. Mixing hardscape and softscape is a goal all landscapers should have in mind when working on a project.

Flower, plant or small shrub borders - These flora borders help to balance the hardscaping features of your property such as paths, driveways, sidewalks, etc.

Hanging flower baskets - Seasonal flowers add the perfect welcoming touch to the perimeter of any property.

New saplings - Birch, maple, and cedar trees are wonderful additions to many properties in the Metro Vancouver area. They provide shade which can also act as a natural air conditioner for your property.

Retaining walls - Made from trees, shrubs, and hedges, retaining walls made from flora help to add privacy and create natural boundaries without the use of heavy hardscaping materials.

  • How frequently do you treat lawns, trees, and shrubs?

How often your softscaping features need to be treated will depend on the plants themselves. Horticultural softscape can be distinguished by two specific categories: annual and temporary. This refers to how long your plants will survive and what measures will need to be taken when they are at the end of their term.

For example. annual softscape features such as evergreen trees will require less treatment than temporary plants such as tulips. This is because tulips will need to be replaced each year in order to ensure a healthy bloom while evergreens can withstand all seasons.
